The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) says operators will roll out 5G services by 2020, reports The Nation.
NCC CEO Garba Umar Danbatta said already, they have started test-running the technology in Atlantic City, Lagos.
Danbatta said the mobile industry is a significant contributor to the economic activities of Nigeria and also to the growth of other sectors of the economy.
Head of sub-Saharan Africa for the GSMA, Akinwale Goodluck, said the organisation’s research has shown that the mobile market in Nigeria has made significant contribution to the economy.
He said the mobile industry contributed USD 21 billion to GDP in 2017, representing 5.5 percent of Nigeria’s total GDP.
In addition, the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy resulted in the creation of nearly 500,000 direct and indirect jobs.
