NIPC Pledges Support to 1st Bonny Investment & Tourism Expo: Strengthening Partnerships for Economic Growth

Abuja, August 24, 2023 – In a significant step towards fostering economic growth and sustainable development, the Acting Executive Secretary/CEO of Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Hajja Gana Wakil, welcomed Mrs. Constance N. Nwokejiobi, Director General of the Bonny Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines & Agriculture (BonnyChamber), to the NIPC office.

The meeting, which marked the start of a collaborative journey, focused on the upcoming 1st Bonny Investment & Tourism Expo (1st BITE of Bonny 2023). Nwokejiobi presented the vision and objectives of the expo, aimed at positioning Bonny Island as a premier destination for investment, trade, and tourism while aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Acknowledging the strategic importance of the expo, Hajja Gana Wakil expressed NIPC’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote investment, economic diversification, and sustainable development across Nigeria. She commended the Bonny Chamber’s efforts in driving economic growth in Bonny Island and emphasized the need for collaboration to achieve shared goals.

The 1st BITE of Bonny 2023 aims to unlock potentials exceeding $15 billion in investments, attract thousands of tourists to the island, and empower local businesses, contributing to Bonny Island’s GDP and the broader Nigerian economy. This aligns well with NIPC’s mission to facilitate investment, attract investors, and drive economic growth in Nigeria.

Director General, Constance Nwokejiobi expressed her gratitude for the warm reception at NIPC and underscored the expo’s potential to foster partnerships, attract investments, and showcase Bonny Island’s unique sectors. She also highlighted the collaborative efforts with key stakeholders, including the Rivers State Tourism Development Agency and international partners such as the United Nations and Afrexim Bank.

The partnership between NIPC and Bonny Chamber sets a precedent for strategic collaboration between government agencies and industry bodies, emphasising the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation in driving economic growth and sustainable development.

The unveiling of the 1st BITE of Bonny 2023 is scheduled to take place in November at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. As a Special Guest of Honour, NIPC will play a pivotal role in showcasing support for the initiative.
