“Nigeria still wants Oil but needs more than Oil” NIPC Executive Secretary/CEO At The Africa CEO Forum In Cote D’ivoire

The Africa CEO Forum is the foremost annual meeting of the private sector in Africa where stakeholders meet to discuss, network and learn from success stories of the African private sector as well as dialogue and propose strategic solutions regarding the development of African enterprise and markets. The 6th AFRICA CEO FORUM 2018 held in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire from March 27, 2019 with the theme, “African Champions: Powering Competitiveness”, aims from amongst others, to enable its participants to formulate action plans for the transformation of the continent’s large companies.

At the forum held in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire, Ms Yewande Sadiku Executive Secretary/CEO of Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) speaking, as a panellist on the theme “The new Nigerian economy” at the forum, in Cote d’Ivoire said “the Economic Recovery Growth Plan is a short-term plan that articulates how government expects to achieve diversification in addition to oil. Nigeria still wants oil but needs more than oil”. She further mentioned that the Nigerian government is intent on encouraging the private sector’s growth by supporting entrepreneurship, encouraging industrialization and the value addition of Nigerian resources.

The opening Plenary Session was conducted by President of Cote d’Ivoire His Excellency, Alassane Ouattara, and in his opening speech said, “the private sector needs to improve productivity and performance adding that there are important opportunities for investment, but such opportunities have to be seized by the private sector”, other African Head of States and Presidents that participated in the event include: President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, and President Nana Akufo-Addo, of Ghana who spoke on ‘Doing Business’ to deepen insights into doing business in their countries.

Top level captains of industries in Nigeria that shared their experiences and the Nigerian perspective at the two-day event include from amongst others, Group Chief Executive, Oando PLC Wale Tinubu, alongside other executives from the company; former President Olusegun Obasanjo; Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, BUA Group Alhaji Abdulsalam Rabiu; President, Africa Development Bank Akinwunmi Adesina; Chief Executive Officer, Citi Nigeria Akin Dawodu, The Governor of Bayelsa State Siriake Dickson, The Co-founder of Sahara Group, Tonye Cole.

The Presidents of Cote d’voire, Ghana and Zimbabwe have called for more collaboration from the private sector to drive the desired growth in the continent with an estimated 5.6 trillion dollars of business opportunities waiting to be tapped. They made this appeal on Monday in their various presentations at the opening ceremony of the 6th edition of Africa CEO forum held in Abidjan. The event was well attended with about 1600 participants from 63 countries including 43 from Africa..
